This Saturday sees the first ever DEDICATED Fashion Show coming to Nottingham’s Lace Market. Aongside the Catwalk and bands, Curiosity Haus will be hosting an outdoor fair with a number of stalls. Here you will be able to pick up more info on the Catwalk designers and reserve or purchase catwalk items as well as the opportunity to buy from some of Nottingham’s best designer makers.

Our line up includes big retail names Pretty Green and Doctor Martins sharing the stage with up and coming independent labels as well as a showcase from some of Nottingham’s top vintage shops. This post will give you the background from some of our independent designers that you can look forward to seeing on the night.
SPARKLE KITTEN: Founded in 2011, SparkleKitten design and make unique leather, feather. floral and bejewelled headdresses, accessories and jewellery. Each piece is unique and custom made by hand from widely sourced new, upcycled and recycled materials. SparkleKitten currently sells internationally online and also accepts bespoke commissions. HOWL at the Sun design and print unique T-shirts & Sweaters from their Nottingham studio situated within a collective of artists. HOWL only print limited runs of each design and aim to provide a unique and fresh angle on fashion. Their first and current collection of designs are Influenced by dreams & the subconscious resulting in bold and surreal prints available as unisex T-shirts & sweaters in all sizes. GUARDEN: The work of Guarden is based on anything diverse and out of the ordinary and normally escalates from a certain idea. It can be portrayed through garments as well as Illustrations and fashion accessories. The upcoming spring/summer collection is called SUSHI S/S 13. Fresh cut garments with bold pastel colours based on the Japanese delicacy mainly because of the designer’s love of Japan and eating! GUARDEN is about guarding your body with beautiful garments how you see fit and the little adventure behind that. TRUTH CLOTHING is mainly influenced by the Truth Movement, politics, spirituality and environmental issues. Truth was initially set up to get people questioning things instead of absorbing controlled media. They draw and cut their stencils by hand, as well as dying and printing by hand. MERRIMAKING: A wardrobe full of playful ideas. Founded in 2009 as a means to fund fun. Now one of the better-known independent fashion labels on the UK festival scene. Best known for our animal hoods, Merrimaking also make ‘long sleeve sweatshirts’, cloud jumpers with [actual] silver linings and other playful pieces. FEROX: Brought together through a love of animal prints and hatred for the real fur industry, the Ferox collection focuses on bold statement pieces, consisting of girls hood dresses and shrug hoodies, and hoodies and tshirts for the boys. M:R is a new Fashion label that focuses on quality, innovative and alternative clothing for the individual with a strong sense of it’s heritage and passion for a British identity. It’s aspirations are to create a recognition which you can rely upon for a unique, quality style. COW is an affordable vintage clothing and accessories retailer, selling handpicked items that are sourced from around the world. Currently situated in four Cities – Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham, and Nottingham, with each store offering an individual take on vintage accessories and apparel. Cow want your look to be as unique as we are, which is why COW is proud to offer an eclectic shopping experience for everyone. HAND was established in 2012 with the idea of creating a small but beautifully formed clothing boutique that specialises in bespoke, individual and limited edition fashion items. Something special and unique that is created to give you the same feeling. Charlotte Calpin graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA(hons) in Fashion Design and a PGC in creative pattern cutting. She uses both classic and modern creative cutting techniques to produce contemporary shapes within her garments. Hand is made for the woman that craves the unique. Hand clothing represents a clean contemporary silhouette with an alternative edge. Hand only creates a limited number of each garment so you won’t look like a carbon copy or ever be in the same clothes as anyone else in the room. All garments are handmade in the U.K LANA SIBERIE specialises in handmade knitwear and crochet womenswear and accessories, producing an exclusive capsule collection of handmade evening wear garments. Their Crochet wedding dress recently made it into a photo shoot with Faberge jewellery in the Huffington Post.

Now only a week away, Dedicated Fashion is going to be a huge night for Nottingham’s creative scene. Taking place at the Creative Quarter, in the fashionable setting of Nottingham’s Lace Market, the night’s main attraction will be a fashion show featuring clothes and accessories from local designers:

On the night there will be an outdoor market hosted by Curiosity Haus where local designers will be selling their latest collections giving attendees the chance to purchase & reserve new and limited edition items.
Running late into the night there will be live music from some of Nottingham’s most up and coming live bands, Just James, I am Lono & Tray Electric, and DJs including Stiff Kittens & Staff from The Music Exchange making this event not only an arts & fashion charity fundraiser but also a not to be missed date in the Nottingham social calendar.
The first in an ongoing series of new and exciting events raising money for various charities in Nottingham, Dedicated Fashion will not soon be forgotten. The event will present a cutting edge video mapping projections showcase and an artistic, custom made catwalk, both unique to Dedicated Fashion. The art director for Dedicated’s launch event is Joe Barcham, who has worked on music videos by Sterophonics, Baby Godzilla, Practical Lovers and on such films as Bronson, Bunny and the Bull and Unmade Beds, and who has generously offered his services free of charge in support of Dedicated.
ALL proceeds from Dedicated Fashion will go to Framework, a charity who work hard to get the homeless off the streets and provide them with the resources they need for a brighter future. Don’t miss your chance to get your tickets, as places are limited to 100 and going fast! See you there!

Dedicated Fashion: On 2nd March Curiosity Haus will be hosting a limited number of stalls for fashion and fashion accessory designers as part of a brand new event. Teaming up with I’m not from London and Notts about Music, this will be the first in a ongoing series of new and exciting events raising money for various charities in Nottingham.
Dedicated Fashion will take place at I’m Not From London’s headquarters (CQ Hub) on 8 Stoney Street in the fashionable setting of the Lace Market. The event will showcase the city’s hottest fashion, arts, crafts and musical talents. All proceeds from Dedicated will go to Framework, a charity who work hard to get the homeless off the streets and provide them with the resources they need for a brighter future.
The event’s main attraction will be a fashion show featuring clothes and accessories from local designers as well as a selection of top end high street names on a custom made catwalk, unique to Dedicated. Designer pieces will be worn by a mixture of professional models, Nottingham Trent University fashion students and big names from the local music scene. Our out door fair will be held under marquees hosting a handful of carefully selected Nottingham based designers and artists who will present and sell their latest lines giving attendees the chance to purchase new and limited edition items.

THIS SATURDAY once again, I will be holding a stall at this lovely event in Nottingham city centre.
Come and experience the relaxed, friendly Pretty Dandy Flea on the 24th November 2012.
I will be there with a fine selection of Curiosity Haus wares alongside over 20 stalls – a vibrant mix of artists prints, vintage curios, handmade cushions, records, printed lampshades, unusual gifts and more. Plus a crafty activity stall being run in aid of the Stroke Association.
Alongside the Flea traders there will be DJs from Nottingham record label Hello Thor providing a cool soundtrack & record stall and (really amazing) homemade cakes and treats from The Pop-Up Sandwich Kitchen.
This fabulous flea market taking place on 24th November in Nottingham is bringing together an eclectic mix of homewares and interiors products, inspired by the Brooklyn Flea, NYC. Ideal for doing your Christmas shopping in plenty of time and with plenty of choice of lovely stuff.
The Flea will house an exciting range of new designers, artists, vintage sellers and curiosity hoarders. There will be stalls covering a wide selection of interiors products, from hand-printed linens to architectural salvage, art prints and vintage bric a brac

It has been a little while since I’ve ventured out of the internet and into the real world with Curiosity Haus, but THIS SATURDAY I will be holding a stall at this new one off event in Nottingham city centre.
As well as an array of fabulous stalls selling all sorts of homewares, cards and prints, Nottingham record label Hello Thor will be providing a vintage soundtrack & record stall. Artists FourBeatWalk will be running a “print your own art” stall and homemade cakes and treats will be there to tempt us all from The Pop-Up Sandwich Kitchen.

So festival season has already begun! I love festivals!! So I thought I would put together my top 5 Handmade Must-Have Festival Accessories from the Curiosity Haus Shop. A few weeks ago I braved the rain and went along to Download festival. Download is not really a hot spot for craft spotting, but the music was great! Black Sabbath headlining Sunday Night was a top highlight for me. They have always been one of my favourite bands; as anyone who ever visited the very first Curiosity Haus Website might remember! (you may want to turn down your volume if you are in a public place!)

Kate, is a designer/maker based in Nottingham, with a love of wildlife which is a prevailing influence on her work. She makes a range of products including cards, bags, accessories, stationery and art prints from her beautiful illustrations as well as handmade felt animal brooches. Largely based on nature and wildlife, the most recent additions to Kate’s range are temporary tattoos and nail transfers of her illustrations. Kate has recently had her British Garden Birds Print featured on Channel 4 Homes and Folksy’s top 10 best Craft Buys. So make sure you come along to catch this celebrity in real life! ;)

Anna’s love of fabric began whilst studying Fashion and Dressmaking.

Katrine is an illustrator who loves printmaking based in Nottingham. Since studying fine art at university, she has explored her love of creating simple line drawing illustrations. She turns these into screen-prints and sometimes lino-cuts. All designs are handprinted onto cards, textiles and more recently a range of ceramic mugs and handmade brooches. On Saturday you can shop for her hand screen-printed wooden brooches with a selection of doodles and drawings; her ceramic mugs ‘Nice, lovely, elegant, dainty mug collection’ including illustrations of fancy teacups , George Orwell and Jean Luc-Picard quotes; Prints ; Tote bags and Cards including her famous ‘Merry Cliffmas’ Cards for a bit of festive bling!

We all know it’s important to recycle… but there are not many doing it with as much style and class as these clever sellers who will be joining us on Saturday 17th December for our Indie Craft and Design Market at Bunkers Hill.
Katie makes unique origami jewellery and home accessories using recycled and reclaimed books. She will be joining us on the 17th with her stunning range of necklaces, brooches, earrings, sculptures and framed ephemera and collages. New ranges include vintage-style jewellery using found materials and paper. She also sells a range of handmade/hand printed cards, gift bows, upcycled envelopes and postcards. Through experimentation with paper techniques and effects she has created a range of bespoke recycled accessories, reinventing the role of paper in the modern age.
Tom Machin is a jewellery and furniture designer whose work is always environmentally friendly, using materials normally regarded as ‘waste’. Using old silver cutlery, he transforms vintage silver spoons and forks into rings, bangles and other stylish jewellery.
His unusual jewellery is a real talking point- a unique piece of history has been upcycled and fashioned into the contemporary.
We are delighted Tom will be joining us with his upcycled range of handmade, wearable modern jewellery.
Rowan creates personal, unique, vintage style, recycled and original handmade jewellery.
